IS POOR HEALTH A LOSS OF BILLIONS OF YEN? THE IMPORTANCE OF "HEALTH INVESTMENTS" AND THE POTENTIAL OF "NMN" -- NORDESTE X JYONEN TSUKASA
In a simulation of businesspeople in their 40s, it is reported that "there is a difference of tens of millions of yen in lifetime annual income between those who remained healthy and active during their working years and those who became ill and were unable to be active.
If performance declines due to physical weakness caused by old age or illness, income may decrease by that amount. What measures can we take against this old age and disease? Generally speaking, we can improve our diet and exercise, but are there any other ways?
Tomotaka Abe, President of Nordeste Corporation, a long-established company in the health industry founded in 1731 and a pioneer of the remarkable ingredient "NMN" (nicotinamide mononucleotide), and economic commentator Jyonen Tsukasa, discussed specific solutions to "performance decline due to aging phenomenon. and economic commentator Jomenji discussed specific solutions to the problem from an investment perspective under the theme of "Performance Decline Due to Aging.
IT ALSO DISCUSSES NMN, WHICH IS GAINING ATTENTION AS AN EFFECTIVE MEANS OF MAINTAINING YOUTHFULNESS AND HIGH PERFORMANCE FOREVER. WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO STAY YOUNG, HEALTHY, AND KEEP PERFORMING AT A HIGH LEVEL? THIS IS THE ETERNAL QUESTION OF MANKIND.

1. does poor health cost hundreds of millions of yen?
Nordeste Abe (hereafter, company name, titles omitted): Everyone is aware of the importance of good health, but we don't often think about how much it is worth and to what extent we should invest in our health. From your perspective as an economic commentator, please tell us about the economic losses caused by poor health and the "health investment" measures we can take to stay healthy.
Economic commentator Mr. Jonen (title and honorifics omitted): It may not be common yet, but I believe that most people can make a difference of "50 million yen or more" in monetary terms by making a "health investment" or not.
People earn money in the economic world by using their physical and mental health as capital. If we lose all our health, we cannot work or earn. So let us consider "health = principal" and "earning = interest".
Let us compare human beings to stocks. Calculated at the average yield of 2.5% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the principal of a person with an annual income of 5 million yen is 200 million yen. In other words, the principal of a person with an annual income of 2.5 million yen is 100 million yen. It is exactly the same as the investment approach.
Abe: In other words, a person with an annual income of 10 million yen would be worth four times 2.5 million, or about 400 million yen. I am surprised that quantifying it has that much impact. It is frightening to me because I am not good at exercising and try to take supplements and the like as much as possible.
Jonen: We are constantly dealing with our own health, and when we do things that are bad for our bodies, our principal is reduced. The structure is such that the less healthy we are and the less we are able to work, the less interest we receive in the form of income. The value of a person's health is worth hundreds of millions of dollars in terms of money.
I wish more people would recognize that health is the principal and how important it is.
2. resisting aging. Is the era of "500 years of life" coming?
Abe: How do you maintain your health, Mr. Jounen? Also, how did you start taking care of your health?
JONEN: I have been sensitive about my health since I was a child. When I was in elementary school, my teacher told me that my teeth would melt if I drank Coke, and I became afraid of it.
Mr. Jounen commenting on the project.
For a while after I entered the workforce, I was not that health conscious; when I was around 30 years old, I was the manager of a cram school, and I was extremely busy working ....... I worked late every night and drank and ate afterwards, and I gained a lot of weight and had bad results in my health checkup. Then I lost weight and started taking care of my health.
I also try to exercise in moderation. For example, I have been practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for about 15 years, and recently I have been sea kayaking once a week. While sea kayaking, I sometimes meet people in their 70s who are physically fit.
The good thing about sea kayaking is that you use not only your body, but also your brain to figure out how to keep your balance. Exercising not only the body but also the brain leads to good health, so I have the impression that many people remain energetic even as they age.
Abe: Jounen-san enjoys exercising, but I am not very good at it. Every year I resolve to "run this year" or "go to the gym," but I am so busy that in the end I never continue.
Despite my dislike of exercise, I hope to remain active throughout my life and live to be about 120 years old. The late Professor Emeritus Haruo Nishihara, former president of Waseda University, remained active as a scholar until the age of 94. I was impressed by the words of Professor Emeritus Haruo Nishihara, who said, "Life is a Hakone Ekiden (relay race). What he meant was that one's life is an outward journey until the age of 60 and a return journey until the age of 120. So, after the age of 60, you should go on the return trip in your own way. I would like to continue on my way to 120 years of age in good health.
As we age, we tend to be thought of as a "burden on society," but I would like to overturn that notion. If you are healthy, you should not be a burden.
JONEN: Many people who say they don't want to live that long assume that they can't stay healthy.
Abe: That is correct. The world will change if healthy life expectancy, not just life expectancy, is increased. Ray Kurzweil, a well-known advocate of the "Singularity" (technological singularity), has proposed that a human singularity will occur in 2045, and that people may live to be 500 years old.
RAY KURZWEIL HAS ACTUALLY INVESTED HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN THINGS LIKE STRENGTHENING THE STRUCTURE AND DNA OF THE HUMAN BODY. WE MAY ALREADY BE APPROACHING THE ERA OF "500 YEARS OF LIFE," AN ERA IN WHICH WE CAN LIVE LONGER AND HEALTHIER LIVES.
JONEN: I am interested in the fact that even if we cannot achieve such a long life span by the power of nature alone, we can extend our healthy life span with the power of medicine. In order to live a long and healthy life, the power of medicine is necessary. Even now, it is said that if there were no vaccines in the world, most people would die in their teens. We can say that we are supported by medicine to extend our life span.
3. what do high performers have in common?
Abe: Do you think people who continue to perform at a high level all the time have anything in common?
JONEN: Someone who moves both body and head. I also think it's someone who has their own rules and continues to follow them.
Many people who remain active in the economy and the entertainment industry are not only using their brains, but also enjoy hard exercise, such as triathlons. Hard exercise uses both the brain and the mind, which may have a significant impact on health.
No matter how effective a health regimen may be, if it is not suited to your exact needs and lifestyle, you will not continue it. I believe that those who can set a rule for themselves, "I will do this one thing! and continue to do so, will become physically and mentally stronger.
4. SECRETS OF ANTI-AGING CARE* WITH "NMN
Jonen: An anti-aging* ingredient that has recently been attracting attention worldwide is nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN).
NMN" HAS BEEN IN THE FIELD OF ANTI-AGING CARE* IN RECENT YEARS, AND SUPPLEMENTS USING "NMN" ARE HANDLED BY NORDESTE, OF WHICH YOU ARE THE PRESIDENT, RIGHT?
Abe: " NMN" is a relative of vitamins that was discovered through the study of yeast and enzymes. It was discovered several decades ago, but what it was was not understood. It was only around 2015 that it began to attract attention for its "effectiveness as an anti-aging agent*," and it was featured on a TV program.
JONEN: I was taking "NMN" supplements at that very time, but I remember that I did not notice much change.
Abe: It is possible that the "NMN" supplements that you obtained from Jonen may have unfortunately differed from the real ingredients.
A medical journal called "BMC Medicine" conducted an unannounced test of 44 products and 30 herbal supplements from 12 North American companies, with the shocking result that only two products were free of substitutes or adulterants and contained exactly what was on the label.
We too negotiate with many companies to get the right ingredients, but when we ask them to provide evidence that their ingredients are authentic, we sometimes do not get a clear response. In other words, they do not have the evidence that it is real either.
President Abe comments
Jonen: It is shocking to hear that " only two companies had products that contained exactly what was on the label. Maybe the supplements I used to take did not contain the correct ingredients. Next time I choose an NMN, I want to make sure I am looking at reliability.
Is there a key to detecting whether a health-related product contains the right ingredients or not?
Abe: Not absolutely, but products from companies that have continued research and development diligently and have a proven track record are probably more reliable.
We do not say that all products from companies with a poor track record are products with inaccurate content. However, even if the manufacturer of a supplement thinks it is "authentic," it may have been deceived by a malicious supplier when it obtained the material.
We always try to obtain evidence to ensure that different ingredients are not mixed. Trust is undermined when customers buy a product thinking it contains anti-aging* ingredients, only to find that it is just a powder. It is difficult to obtain evidence to obtain legitimate ingredients, but we will continue our research and development to truly support the health of our customers by utilizing the experience and knowledge we have built up since our establishment in 1731.
Jonen: I see. So there are cases where manufacturers themselves have been deceived. I learned a lot. Thank you very much for your time today.
Abe: Thank you very much for your time as well.
